Nevermind, it's raining

The day has refused to gel. Not one thing or another. No thought seaworthy. All surface noise and jostling. No true current.

And then the rain came.

I sat a moment out under the porch roof watching the rain fall between me and the neighbor's ancient hemlock. The afternoon eased into a darker grey and the shoosh of traffic took on a serious, intent air.

For a moment nothing else mattered.
